Jaeger-LeCoultre's exhibition in Dubai

Dubai Watch Week

World's biggest watch and jewellery fairs

Are you a watch enthusiast or watch collector? Take a look at the list of events and exhibitions to look forward to, coming soon to Dubai and worldwide throughout the year.

THE STELLAR ODYSSEY by Jaeger-LeCoultre

The Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the art of watchmaking inspired by the stars and the universe surrounding us. Mankind was always looking up at the sky, the sun and the stars since the dawn of civilization.

The artisan watchmakers of many watch manufacturers today work incredibly hard to bring the miracle of the moving universe to our wrists. Jaeger-LeCoultre ranks highly in the watchmaking world, for successfully delivering on that promise.

Since Middle Eastern astronomy has contributed to many major innovations and breakthroughs throughout history, Dubai was chosen as a starting point, to host their first travelling exhibition - The Stellar Odyssey.

The exhibition will take place at the Dubai Fountains, starting Saturday 4th to Thursday 23rd February 2023, taking us on a journey to understand more how the universe, the sun and the stars above have guided humankind, and how today's artisans are recreating that world through timepieces.

One of the pieces I am very excited to see is the Atmos clock pictured below. It is a watch in perpetual motion, powered by normal, everyday fluctuations in air temperature; a variation of just one degree Celsius is sufficient to guarantee two days of running time, enabling it to run perpetually if kept under normal everyday conditions.

The event is open to the public and it offers a hands-on Discovery Workshop that focuses on the wonder of astronomical complications and the celestial origins of time-keeping – a rare opportunity as these kinds of experiences are usually reserved for private collector's events in the watch world.

In an effort to create a dialogue between different art mediums and artisans, for The Stellar Odyssey, Jaeger-LeCoultre has commissioned projects by French multi-media artist Guillaume Marmin and world-renowned mixologist Matthias Giroud. So we are in for a treat for all of our senses!

DUBAI WATCH WEEK by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons

One of the biggest watch events in Dubai is Dubai Watch Week, organized by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons. This event is hosted in Dubai every alternate year. The event will return to Dubai in November 2023, after last year's visit to New York City. Founded in 2015, the event provides a platform for watchmakers and watch enthusiasts to share knowledge, connect, and share both new designs and pioneering innovations in the industry.

The last event, in Dubai in 2021, hosted over 45 watch brands, many of them well-known to us all, such as Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Tudor, Hublot and Chopard.

There were two, very welcome novelties introduced last year - the WatchBox boutique was present with a collection of pre-owned luxury watches, and there was a lounge dedicated to watch collectors: a space for building connections, meeting likeminded people, and being introduced to the latest the watch world has to offer.

Very much looking forward to this year's event!

WATCHES AND WONDERS GENEVA by Foundation de la Haute Horologie (FHH)

SIHH( Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie), is a trade show of the international watch and jewellery industry that was established in 1991 by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) as an annual event that was held at the Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland every January.

Along with Baselworld, SIHH is considered one of the major exhibitions of luxury watches.

During the pandemic, the 2020 exhibition was cancelled and transformed into an online event. At the same time, SIHH announced that will rebrand into Watches and Wonders Geneva and changed the date of the exhibition from January to March/April, held in the successive weeks after Baselworld, until 2024. Another novelty for 2022/23 is that the Watches and Wonders exhibition travelled to China.

Watches and Wonders is currently taking up residence on the island of Hainan, China, open for the public to admire their latest creations. The event started 2nd of December, 2022 and will stay open until the 28th of February, 2023.

Thirteen watchmakers are participating in the exhibition - A. Lange & Söhne, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Girard-Perregaux, Hermès, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis, Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron Constantin.

Each Maison is also hosting in-store events to showcase their new models. A. Lange & Söhne offers a retrospective of its history as seen through the prism of its new Grand Lange 1; IWC concentrates on photo opps, with four corners where one can pose with the new Portofino collection; Cartier has opted for an animation table designed to give visitors a deep dive into its Coussin, Pasha and Panthère creations. Baume & Mercier, which is fully committed to sustainable watchmaking, has developed an innovative concept of a Seed Vending Machine, to be harvested alongside its new Riviera watches. Finally, Montblanc invites their guests to express themselves with an Ink Bar where they can write and then post a card featuring the latest models of the 1858 collection. An overall enticing and interesting experience for their visitors!

The next Watches and Wonders Geneva edition will be held from 27 March to 2 April 2023 in Palexpo, Geneva’s exhibition centre. This year, for the first time, the event will open its doors to the public over the weekend, on 1 and 2 April 2023. So, if you are not on their guest list, you can still have the opportunity to wander through the aisles of this prestigious Salon and discover the latest designs and trends for the year. Tickets will be available exclusively online on their website in early February 2023 at the price of 70 CHF. The first five days will be reserved for the press, retailers and the guests of the 49 exhibiting Maisons.

LVMH Watch Week by LVMH

Continuing the line of events in Asia this month, LVMH hosted its fourth LVMH Watch Week (10 - 12th of January, 2023) in Singapore, inviting their guests to preview the latest creations from their watchmaking Maisons Bulgari, Hublot, Tag Heuer and Zenith.

BASELWORLD by MCH Group

Baselworld is the oldest watch and jewellery exhibition, established in 1917 taking residence in Basel, Switzerland. Along with SIHH, post-pandemic, it also went through restructuring and changes. They have agreed to coordinate the exhibitions with Watches and Wonders Geneva on consecutive dates until 2024.

Another novelty for Baselworld is the introduction of a digital platform, "supplemented by live events, which will be available to the jewellery, watch and gem industry around the clock, 356 days a year, worldwide”.

More certainty on the exact dates will be announced soon.
